The 5th Yaffa Festival of Contemporary Arab Culture

The 5th Yaffa Festival for Contemporary Arab Culture, at Jaffa Theatre for the fifth year with the aim of exposing unfamiliar contemporary Arab culture to Israeli audiences.  The festival includes original productions, premieres of special productions, alongside plays and theatre events, music performances, film and dance as well as lectures and dialogues.

Thursday 16.7

17:00   Premiere:  "HaRais" Staged reading of an original play by Daniel Bukris and directed by him. A comic drama inspired by an old Tunisian legend accompanied by authentic live music. Length: About an hour, in Hebrew. 

19:00 - ”Ten Notes on the Annexation"
An event at which 10 artists respond to the annexation and try to raise new angles in what may happen in the near future. This is an opening event on the way to establishing a new movement of resistance through art.  Among the participants: Smadar Yaaron, Samira Seraya, Einat Weitzman, Joshua Sobol, Yael Tal, Sinai Peter, Chen Alon, Moti Lerner, Avi Gibson Barel, Igal Ezraty & more. Length: about 70 minutes in Arabic & Hebrew
20:30- "Yaffo- Paris- Marseille" A documentary film, a premiere screening in the presence of the actors. Documents the story and tour, of the two successful productions:  "Oum Kalthoum" starring Galit Giat & "Farid El Atrash"
starring Ziv Yechezkel, performed among the largest Jewish and Muslim communities in Europe. Scriptwriter & Director: Eli Grunfeld; Production: Jaffa Theatre 2020; Length 35 Min. Hebrew, Arabic & French, English translation

21:00 – Musical Event " Chalimat Chalomot " songs of Abed El-Halim Hafez. Performance is in tribute to "The Black Nightingale" singer and actor, with a dramatic repertoire – of plots from the films he participated in and his life-story. Participants: Ziv Yechezkel; Guest actor Uri Gavriel, Pianist: Nizar Alchater. Length: 1 hour, songs in Arabic presentation in Hebrew
